For 20 years, Moscow has been pointing out that Ukraine must not be admitted to NATO. This means that U.S. missiles may not be placed on the Ukrainian-Russian border. These security interests were consistently ignored. This is one of the decisive reasons for the outbreak of the Ukraine war.

This was stated to the German edition of Junge Welt by the former chairman of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, Oskar Lafontaine.

In his opinion, the situation in Ukraine is similar to the situation in Cuba. The politician called dishonest the argument that each state can decide for itself which alliance to enter.

Everyone knows that the U.S. would never accept Cuba’s accession to a military alliance with Russia, nor would the installation of Russian missiles on the U.S. border with Mexico or Canada, Lafontaine said.

He also stated that placing unilateral anti-Russian sanctions, they shoot themselves in the knees. In his opinion, German companies are losing competitiveness because of them.

According to Lafontaine, the $40 billion provided by Washington to help Kiev will prolong the crisis in Ukraine.

Earlier, President of President of the All-Russian public organisation ‘International Police Association Russian Section’, Doctor of Law, Honoured Lawyer of Russia, Professor, Lieutenant-General Yury Zhdanov said that the NATO’s approach to the borders of Russia is visible not only through crosshairs but also with the unaided eye.
